Advice on red club

After attending the event Saturday I decided my red needs to be longer for my style. To fit in with the priest I am going for a club instead of bladed and adding a green tip. Looking for advice on length (6,7,8 ft), how many layers of foam, and how many layers of foam for the incidental padding.

Side note question, can I use tennis shoes if I make a cover for them?

Tennis shoes are fine as long as they aren't white, and if you're going to make a covering it's almost as easy to make turn shoes.

As for the Club, six feet is about the max to make it if you want to actually use it like a club. If you hit 7 or 8 feet then you're going to want to use it like a spear or glaive as it is far too dangerous to swing it like a 4-5 foot club. My advice is if your current feels too small make one a little bit bigger, but instead of trying to custom tailor a weapon to your fighting style you should try and learn how best to use the weapon you make. Eventually you'll find the shots that make the weapon work the best, which is why there are successful people with reds from 4 to 8 feet. Practice makes proficient, and a good red fighter can really wreck some shield lines.

Re: Advice on red club

My shoes are white which is why I wanted to know about covers - they are custom for my knee problems and after wearing boots on Sat I definitely can't be jumping in them (had to sit out the entire third round of the rooftop battle).

Why would a club be too dangerous out of 6'? I figured it would be the same as a glaive and I wanted to fight that way (stab with the occasional shield blow). I wanted reach primarily so I can stab when supporting and my 54" couldn't reach far enough, which makes me lean towards the full 8' bandshoppe pole. Just curious why it is dangerous and what the difference is between the club and glaive.

It's fine to use it in a manner similar to a glaive, you just don't to use a 7-8 foot club like you would a 4-5 foot club. People with smaller reds sometimes try to tag shoulders and throw kill shots in situations where it's not an unguarded target, when you add the extra length it's harder to be as accurate and you can get a lot more force going. If you're planning on using the club like a glaive then it's going to work out great for you, but you don't want to use it like a min red.
