Take your time. The more time you spend on making something look nice and clean, the less errors you will make, and the nicer the overall piece will look. I'm sure any person can agree with me on that one.

Peen rivets. They're a lot smoother and more comfortable on the inner surface of the armor, leaving a nice flat surface (that at least I find more esthetically pleasing) on the outside.
