I also have my knees slightly bent and my back is kept straight. In this stance your core is set and ready for shot throwin'. The most common leg shot thrown is at the left shin/calf. In this stance your leg is further back giving you time to drop that useful tear corner to absorb their shot. Shots thrown at your right leg can be avoided by sliding like Sindaric said (This stance uses the edge of the shield to block most of the shots to the body.) nondisclosed_email@example.com (Maeo)Sun, 04 Apr 2010 23:29:11 +0000 Re: Leg Defensehttps://beryndor.runboard.com/p308783,from=rss#post308783https://beryndor.runboard.com/p308783,from=rss#post308783i've used a tear drop strap shield for a while and the last person i know who got consistent leg shots on me was Elron when i was using a new shield. Some things that i learned and adapted is 'turtling' -hold the shield close to your body and resting on your forward leg(left) -when anticipating a limb hunter (especially a leg hunter), move your weight back and prepare to slide your leg back and shift defense to your right side to attempt to protect your torso/shoulder/hip -attempt to 'scoot' closer to your opponet weapon side to increase your shield are per their shot area. When possible, extend shield to nullify most of their capable swing and capitalize on their attempts to either break away or break through. the main concept to take away is that you want to draw in attempted to shots to increase the chance at a counter shot. The shield is your life line when you become a dedicated shield user and line fighter. Pro tip: adapt to the fighter you are facing -machine gunner tend to stick heavily to the area of their attack and overpower your defense -limb hunters put out bait and attempt to draw out an open shot to exploit -defensive fighters will draw you in to make a mistake to capitalize and put you on the defensive every one of them has their own strength and weakness and every one of them can be beaten by the other. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Fuaru)Fri, 02 Apr 2010 01:57:05 +0000 Re: Leg Defensehttps://beryndor.runboard.com/p308782,from=rss#post308782https://beryndor.runboard.com/p308782,from=rss#post308782I like what Yak had to say, but I prefer the leg slide rather than leg kick. You can try pulling your leg back while still leaving your foot on the ground, meaning you're pretty much just sliding you foot back as they swing. One reason I really like this technique over actually blocking your legs is: 1) You don't have to take any defensive capability away from your upper half. 2) When many fighters swing, they swing expecting you to block. they do this because they count on the bounce back from your block to help recoil their weapon. By causing them to whiff it now takes the opposing fighter longer to ready themselves for their next attack. 3)Not lifting your leg also allows you keep in better balance. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Sindaric)Thu, 01 Apr 2010 22:42:03 +0000 Re: Leg Defensehttps://beryndor.runboard.com/p308776,from=rss#post308776https://beryndor.runboard.com/p308776,from=rss#post308776If it is a strap shield then you can hold a long back up weapon and use that to block with while holding it pommel up. You can also train to kick back your lower leg when people swing at your leg. Your knee should be relatively stationary while you heel connects to your buttocks.nondisclosed_email@example.com (yakamo)Thu, 01 Apr 2010 18:19:28 +0000 Re: Leg Defensehttps://beryndor.runboard.com/p308774,from=rss#post308774https://beryndor.runboard.com/p308774,from=rss#post308774I think that Maeo would be the best person to comment on this situation in particular, as he probably has the most experience with a teardrop like yours that I can think of.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Genz)Thu, 01 Apr 2010 16:28:37 +0000 Leg Defensehttps://beryndor.runboard.com/p308773,from=rss#post308773https://beryndor.runboard.com/p308773,from=rss#post308773So what I'm hearing from the higher-level fighters I've been sparring with is that my biggest weakness is my inability to protect my legs. I'm a right-handed fighter using a teardrop strap shield, and my go-to stance is left foot forward, right side back. I've heard from countless fighters that keeping my weight on my right foot makes it easier to get the left out of the way, and I've been working to implement that, with some success. But, clearly, this hasn't been enough. Is there any advice you can give me to minimize the vulnerability of my legs? Other than "be faster and suck less", of course.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Brinya)Thu, 01 Apr 2010 16:22:28 +0000
