Re: Ragnarok XXV - June 13 to 20 at Cooper's Lake

I am confused about what is so perplexing about my frustration. So, I will break it down;

1. Ragnarok is very cool.
2. If you are seventeen you cannot go to Ragnarok without a guardian.
3. I know that when I was seventeen I would not been able to bring a guardian.
4. Therefore, it sucks if you are a seventeen year old and cannot go to Ragnarok.

My complaint is not legal or political so much as "aw shucks" in nature. I understand the how and why perfectly fine. I really do not care enough to try to start some grass roots movement in Dagorhir to convince it and the campsite that <18 year olds should be able to go. But, I do fall firmly in the "Well, that sucks. When I first went to Rag I was underage..." category. I remember how amazing Ragnarok was to me as a wee lad. And I know that the older I get the less awesome-cool-woah-neato things are. By that logic, for me at least, I know that underage kids enjoy Ragnarok more than I do. Sucks that they cannot go. But hey, maybe underneath all of my stick jockiness and bluster I am just a softy for the kids?

tl;dr Sucks fo' any <18 year old who cannot go to Ragnarok.

I hope my response wasn't interpreted as me telling you you're wrong to feel bummed out. It seemed like people wanted some more info on this issue, so I tried to convey it.

Looking back at my posts, I strayed from that effort and took up a personal sales pitch on why I do think this is a good idea (which sorta implied you were taking the opposite view and I was trying to verbally duel you).

I say all the underage kids throw their own Ragnarok in the play room down the hall from the dinner room. They have to fight with paper plates and plastic utensils, but they can be as loud as they want since grand ma-ma is out of earshot. And they can all pick on little Susan, who has a bad habit of passing gas after eating too much turkey. What?

On the upside -- we let the young uns go nuts at Ides. Just sayin.

Like Athron said, Mudurin, I must apologize if my responses come off as a verbal duel. Because of miscommunications of forums and you can't read tones I read your posts as more of an intense anger than just a "ah shucks" post.

I agree with you that this does in fact suck. However, let me break down what you said here:

Well according to that logic you can say that the older you get you look at things differently. In fact it is a totally different experience. Based on your comment can I make that assumption? If so, then look at ragnarok from someone who is actually involved with the politics of Ragnarok. Unfortunatly, we do in fact have to obey the Laws of the United States of America, and Ragnarok is not it's own governing body (as much as we pretend to be kings... emoticon ).

Saying that, the US Federal and state government looks at a 18+ as an adult and can do things that adults do (buy cigarettes, vote, fight in a war, buy porn, go to a rated R movie, go to bed at 10, and watch Grey's Anatomy). For people who are not 18 they essentially have to have parental approval for many important things such as medical procedures, signing waivers, signing contracts, etc.

Continuing with your school of thought that "I am helping with putting ragnarok togther from the political aspect", what do you think is the best decesion for Dagorhir Battle Games Inc. (a non profit corporation)????

From my perspective, there have been times in the recent past where the cops (the real ones, not the guys who walk around with orange tabards) have shown up at the gates and asking questions about coming on in our secret world... which is something that we do not want to happen. Why where they there? because a random 15 year old showed up at the hospital with alcohol poisioning wearing funny looking clothing. (This is where we go hide in the corner).

Muhdurin, while you had an amazing time at your first rag. I would also imagine that your behavior was controlled enough that it did not require police intervention. That is a correct assumption, right? You were not getting alcohol poisioning, beating your wife, stealing, watching opera, etc.

While dagorhir becomes something very different to you as you grow older, Dagorhir itself has to become something different. Here are a few examples of a few INDIVIUALS wrecking everyone elses good time...
-We used to allow the public to come into ragnarok for 1 day to watch fighting... boom, changed... No longer true. The "public" is no longer allowed to randomly walk into ragnarok because supposedly, some mundanes were doing things they were not supposed to be doing.

-Sin night used to be a "crazy" party... bam, some people demonstrated some inappropriate behaviors and Sin night will never again exist in the form it used to.

-Ragnarok used to allow people under the age of 18 (which included our high council at their first ragnarok... that is before Eryndor even existed). Boom... because a few individuals made some bad decesions to bring this issue to our eyes we now see this changing....

This is off the 18yr old topic but non-the-less a pertinent point when it comes to Ragnarok next year...... Pennsylvania sucks. I hope that Pennsylvania's level of suck is severly less at this camp ground. Like maybe there's a barrier to keep out the suck that is Pennsylvania, god willing.

Pennsylvania suck > Ohio suck?

This is an unheard of claim. Please explain.

I was always under the impression that Ohio suck > all other state-level suck.

Even Delaware.

My claim is being based off of my Badon experience this year. so its a little skewed for the worse. but heres my reasons.

1.Long drive (not longest, but long)
2.Rain
3.Hard as hell to find a place to buy alcohol after 9pm.
4.Wal-mart's in Pennsylvania do not sell alcohol.
5.Pennsylvania doesn't believe in beer runs apparently. I suppose it prevents drinking and driving but damn those Individuals who messed it up for the rest of us.
6.After 2 years of owning my vehicle the first problem happened here. My battery died there and had to buy a new one.

I'm with Muhdurin on this one.
The location change for Ragnarok does indeed mix things up a bit, and as a result, there's both bad and good news.

Bad News: None of our < 18 years old Dagorhirrim being at Rag / Fewer attendees overall

Good News: No more 16 year-old kids from Cambridge High School showing up to Ragnarok with Wal-Mart brand foam swords in a vain attempt to troll our event.

At least SOME good is coming out of it...

Brawnik...i think ur decision on PA sucking is based off 1 Badon hill experience which isnt even the same site for this rag

Also the drive to rag in ohio from toledo...4 hours...the drive to PA from toledo 4 and a half...so not that long.

it rains at rag too

and the rest is based upon superstition...sorry, wanted to poke fun at you a bit....dont get me wrong...im not happy about the site change either, but thats only because im not good at adapting to change constantly

but im pumped for wats to come as well.

P.S. the 18+ rule makes me sad as well...for i entered eryndor when i was 15 and was 16 for my first rag...so if this rule were employed in the past ...my first rag would have been my third LOL...and its definitely not the same
