Friday welcome revel - looking for ideas

Eryndor!

On Friday night at Badon Hill, we'll be having a "welcome revel" of sorts... a SINGLE, BIG party that gets everyone together and having a great time.

The party will only "formally" last 'til approx. midnight... as we want people inspired to fight their A$$e$ off on Saturday... with the HUGE party being Saturday night (which we already have a theme for)

Anyways... we're looking for ANY good suggestions that meet the following criteria:

1. CHEAP (re: less than $50 to do, preferrably near $0)
2. INCLUSIVE (pretty much anyone can play if they choose to do so)
3. INTERACTIVE (gets people to meet and introduce themselves to people from other realms WITHOUT being cheesy in a 6th-grade mixer kind-of-way)
4. FUN (duh!)
5. optional - an ARTHURIAN theme (any semi-silly name that makes it seem "knightly" will suffice)

Any and all ideas welcome (even if your idea is "bad" it may inspire a great idea... don't be shy to jump in!)... and these ideas are not meant to be the WHOLE party... just a PIECE of the party.

Thanks for your help... let's rock out SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HARD at Badon Hill!

Um um um...lets play the ball game where we sit in a circle and when the ball gets passed to you you you have to say your names and where your from and stuff...

j/k

Historically when groups of knights and/or warriors met and shared a peaceful(this is relative) celebration with one another, they would often swap tales of their gallant adventures and victories while on campaign. A story sharing circle might be an idea for those willing to participate and also entertaining for any who care to listen, especially if the story tellers wish to "enhance" the truth, as many warriors often did. It would also be a creative way for people to introduce themselves and/or their units in a creative medium.

Then there's the bonfire.
^If you build it...they will come.

Re: Friday welcome revel - looking for ideas

well... since you guys didn't give ideas until too late.... (just giving you a hard time... all the way from Atlanta)

To keep with an Arthurian theme, we're going to throw a standard welcome revel (everyone comes together, chills out and drinks some) WITH a game element - Knightly Trials (working name... we need something cooler)

Essentially, there will be 10 - 15 "knights" who will be wandering throughout the party. To be deemed a worthy knight, you must pass each one of their various trials.

These trials are fun, casual, interactive and MUST STRESS SOCIAL INTERACTION WITH PEOPLE YOU MAY OTHERWISE NOT KNOW. The whole point of a fun welcome revel is to induce a "mix n' mingle" atmosphere.

We would GREATLY appreciate any good suggestions (keep them in 'relative' good taste... this isn't Mardi Gras or Sin Nite).

Here's a few so far that we've collected:

1 - Defeat an opponent 2/3 times in most-honorable Mug Fu combat.
2 - Assassinate a target with a clothspin... then wander up to them and engage in pleasantries.
3 - Find a woman/man (you dont know), drop to one knee and display your love and affection to them using only the most chivalrous of behavior.

You get the drift. Each game requires you to meet someone you may otherwise have not known.

The winner will get a SWEET prize... something both functional AND useful for the battles on Saturday :-o

Pitch out them ideas!

I'm heading back to Iraq atthe end of the month. I likely won't get another event until Ragnarok.

I NEED this. emoticon

I have faith that Eryndor can do it alone, much less the Aratari!

That telling stories of your accomplishments suggestion could make a good trial.
Get into a bragging contest of your epic adventures with someone that you don't know.

Also: If we have a sort of toast thing where if someone comes up to you and thrusts their mugs into the air and says something along the lines of-and I'll use myself as an example-"I am son to Eyvind, called Galinn, I have traveled many a mile and defeated many enemies along the way and I am honored to know that a warrior such as yourself would feast and drink with me. Now, drink to the might of the Gods with me brother (or sister!) and may the fine food and drink warm your belly, and the fine fire warm your body, and the fine women (or men) warm your bed and heart."
Then the other one gives the proper response and then they can continue talking or just move on. It would make it a bit easier-for me at least- to introduce ourselves to people we don't know, if it were done under the cercumstances of the feast and it's rituals.

Just thought I'd throw out a few of my ideas.
