posticon The Story of Deygan

Deygan was a young celtic girl raised by only her father. Her father, Vodenus, sent his beloved daughter on her right of passage. She would be forced to live in the wilderness for her early years to teach her respect for what had given their friends and family life. A tradition to her father, her late mother and the rest of her celtic Village, every male child had to take on the quest to truly be a warrior. Being that her father only had one child, a female child, he deemed deygan fit to take on the passage. As if being abandoned, she had to rely upon herself and her primitive instincts of survival to get by. Learning the ways of the wood, she honed her hunting and gathering skills. Now barely in her teens she has mastered the way of the forest, and used her talents for the good of its creatures. A heroine of the wood, she never returned home to human life. She abandoned her life as a true celtic warrior for a more druid style of life. After her time in the forests of her homeland she decided to journey to the mainland to discover new creatures and forest life there. She had heard legends of the elves and the peaceful nature of the wilderness there. Deygan, the crafty woodswoman she was, utilized the trees and created a raft to get there. She arrived, starved and fatigued after her grueling journey across unforgiving waters. She crawled onto the beach in her furs and soaked boots. A scavenging wolf licked her face until she awoke, before running off to join his pack. She used all her strength to stand and find the nearest moving creek in which to find fresh water, since she had ran out on her trip. Deygan finally saw a small brook in the distance, and rushed for it. She splashed her face with fresh water and drank until finally refreshed. She grabbed an arrow from her quiver and used it as a spear, cathching several fish she sat down with a small fire and cooked them up. The smell drew an unfamiliar, but mighty creature. She had heard of these bears before, but had never seen one, though she was glad she did. The bear joined her for lunch before sauntering off ahead as Deygan let her food settle. After finding fresh water and having met a new friend, she continued hiking on a path she had discovered, full and somewhat rejuvinated. It was just an unmarked dirt path near huge tunnels and makeshift caves with millions of carvings. Once she continued after admiring the worn carvings by the sea she stumbled upon a group of black orcs, Killing small animals, and burning down trees for entertainment...not use. In a fit of rage and In need of a change she decided that there needed to be the same justice here as in her homeland. Vengence overtook her. Deygan climed into one of the tall tress growing mightily despite the orc intrusions on the forest. She drew her bow back and aimed at the closest of the three orcs. With a swift barrage of shots she was able to bring one down to very wounded state before the other two discover her hiding place. One orc let out a gurgling laugh as he shook the tree, bringing deygan down a bit so the other could rip her from the tree by the ankle. A mighty song of howls erupted from the cover of the trees. With the distraction, deygan scrambled for an arrow from her quiver, her nervous arrow only hit one of the orcs legs. Injured and angered, he sputtered to the other a few unknown words. Without warning Deyagan was lifted by her neck and pinned against the same tree that had aided her earlier. Deygan grimaced, already feeling the pain of the orcs fist and knowing her new fate was a grim one.

Though, maybe she spoke for herself too soon. With her eyes closed she readied herself for the blow, but never felt it, instead she felt the bark of the tree rub against her back as she touched ground once more. She opened her eyes to see her new bear friend pinning the orc under his massive paws. Deygan drew her bow once more, but as she readied her shot, the injured orc jumped atop her friend and was stabbing his tough hide. The bear let out a roar, but still kept a firm grip on the orc below him. Deygan Had a perfect shot now, without interruption her arrow flew strong and true piercing the heart of the attacking orc. The last orc still under the bear was roared at point blank, before being crushed completely. She spat on the ground as the bear hoisted her atop his back. Though none of the three were killed, their injuries would torment them for months to come; the battle was her warning to the orcs that a new threat treaded on the mainland.

She continued through the wood atop her new bear ally, avoiding the orc filled passes. Her other new allies, the wolves, returned to their dens and families. Her warm ride, seemed to know where to take her. The bear slowly made his way into the areas without orcs and dark magic. Deygan fell asleep while she traveled with the large animal. The bear was on his way into the midlands to find allies for his new human friend...who would he find to aid this young woman?

I don't know quite how i should meet the crusade, so could someone approve this part of my story? It would be much appreciated. Also could someone help me sort it out properly to fit the story.

Re: The Story of Deygan

I like the idea, but then again I'm always a sucker for more nature-friendly characters and pretty much anything that has to do with the Beasts. I especially like how you are a female who at one time lived through the rite of passage of a male.

Just for realism sake, don't forget that Black Orcs are massive and ruthless. Even the smallest one would most likely eat you alive, especially with little combat training. However, that doesn't mean you can't elaborate on the story.

JUST AN IDEA: maybe you fire into one of the Black Orcs, the other two turn and charge on you. Terrified, your second arrow flies untrue, only sticking in the gut of one of the Black Orcs. The uninjured Orc catches you and pins you against the tree. Maybe he shouts an obscenity at you (commontongue? Black Speach?) and holds you there, so his injured comrade can have his way with mangling you for shooting him in the gut.

Just as he cocks back his fist to drive it through your skull, they hear loud howls (wolves). They look to the sound, but just as they do, your bear charges in and smashes your attacker. The other Black Orc jumps on the bear's back, grabbing it by the throat and stabbing the bear in the neck. You scuttle to your bow and loose an arrow in the Black Orc's arm and it loses its grip on the bear. It falls to the ground only to be stomped further into the soil by the bear's mighty weight.

This idea fits a little better with the story for a few reasons:

- Different species of Beast are rarely against each other, but it's even more rare that they alliance with each other (wolves and bear don't run together, unless a dire situation)

- There is a slightly more realistic display of Black Orc strength.

- Plus your character is tired and weary at this point, so don't forget to incorporate that.

But a great idea, just keep working at it and after a while it'll be exactly where you want it. Feel free to contact me with questions. [email protected]

TAKE YOUR TIME. Let your story grow with you as you get more involved with the characters and fighting aspects of Dagorhir and Eryndor.
