Re: Crann, the KoSC, and the KoSC Embassy

Perhaps my favorite era of magic.

---
I and my brothers against my cousins, I and my brothers and my cousins against the world.

In this world fire has no sense of humor.

Re: Crann, the KoSC, and the KoSC Embassy

Crann had always wanted to make something of himself, he was rethinking this when a crew of bandits were raiding his family's caravan. What little he owned was now being taken from him as he and relatives were stuck tied to oaks. They were so close to Duindor they could hear a commotion from the nearest tavern. A relative cries for help hoping the bargoers will come to aid. The lead marauder tries to silence the shouter but finds a rock to the back of the head. A gang of guys are trying to take back what is rightfully ours.

Crann tries his hardest to break free of his binds and assist these heroes. Letting loose the knots around him, the fight is finished and the group was already releasing the victims. One can only hope they aren't looking for compensation, for if they are, they'd get whatever the bandits would have taken in the first place, leaving us in the same position only feeling better about it.

Speaking with the group, what they wanted was to find their leader, a myth of a man rarely seen or heard about. Crann uses this opportunity to join these adventurers. The search through the continent had led them on the same path of the crusade.

The dark crown was back in the hands of Maegamarth's forces and it had to be taken back. Weeks the fighting continued. Blood seeped out of the ground with every footstep. The enemy's number never seemed to dwindle. Needless to say, morale was low. Clouds hung over the horizon and misery even nearer. The good army seemed all but surrounded until reinforcements arrived to flank evil side. Amidst this group was a banner being waved, a shirt on a pole, held by red bandanna-ed man.

The Knights of Shining Cloth were reunited at last. Gordune had assembled forces to aid the crusade and found us. Stories of triumph flooded the lands. In every town there were kids pretending to be KoSC and acting out fights. It escalated into a militia force joining the crusade all boasting a part of our organization. Impostors of the Cloth; taking our image and ruining our name.

Genuine and artificial members of the KoSC alike were put to an end when assisting the failing crusade against Maegamarth. The Imperial Guard had been hired to do the dirtiest work known to the continent. We had been peasants with a dream of fighting for our friends. The motto rang true: we ride together, we die together. Only it wasn't the end for Crann. Crawling out from under the bodies of the only people he knew, his friends were lost, and so was his mind.

Wandering without a purpose, dehydrated and in the desert, Crann walks through the desert. Mirages of his old brothers taunt and lead him through the barren lands. Smoke was rising from behind a dune, a battle of some sort. A steady booming of cannon fire led Crann to the coast where a grand ship was wrecked and an even grander ship anchored. The fighting turned to partying as the day sun passed under the horizon. Sick from the heat Crann walks aboard, passing drunken crew without even an acknowledgment. Finding the first bit of shade in days he finds a nice spot to pass out. ... The boat rocks, waves thunder against the hull. Crann awakens dazed and slightly deafened. Someone is yelling at him and there's a big crowd behind them. They continue yelling something. They raise a sword to Crann's ribcage.

"..Crann, is that you?" With ear clearing tones, the first friendly words spoken in a while come from Rin, at one time himself a member of the Shining Cloth. "He's a friend, captain." The chested sword finds its way back into sheath. Always adamant on killing stowaways on a stab-first ask-later basis, the captain is displeased with the outcome.

Life was unsettling aboard the Fair Lady Senegal for Crann, not having a say which way the ship sailed. He grew impatient and longed to be on dry land. Impatient others grew too, though for different reasons. Mutiny it was, the seemingly lighthearted crew had been planted with a seed of distaste for the current hierarchy. The heads of the ship were abolished, new order found, and a new direction the ship would sail.

Back on the land he used to know, Crann witnesses a changed continent. Evil has run rampant and the mighty fortress of Hithdor is beaten black and purple. Taken aback by this he retreats to the forest. Thinking on the most basic of KoSC philosophies "we can't lose" Crann knows he must build up the forces of good, he encounters a wily fur trader called Hans who explains that he just wants to make some moneys. Telling the history and purpose of the KoSC to Hans enlightens him to knowing that having and making friends is the best thing to do, and they together conjure up the idea of a new KoSC.

In respect for the old KoSC, they must take up a new name, the KoSC: Embassy, and having lost his brothers before, the membership will only be temporary. Crann and Hans round up a part-time workforce with the payment of friendship and glory. News of this operation makes its way to the Imperial Guard, The Embassy is a group that hires people for oddjobs, which to them sounds like a mercenary outfit. Upon investigating, their one time adversary is alive and well. Having been paid for his death already, they are not Crann's enemy, and they decide to house this new business in their own headquarters, thinking that he could bring new members to their forces.

Living and working out of an old broom closet in the stronghold of the army that killed his friends, Crann is constantly unsettled. Brawnik will still have flashbacks of fighting the old blue and white and chase Crann down the halls. It may seem hectic, but it is not bad company. Mitten is a light at the end of the black and purple tunnel, Crann's hope for the goodness of the Guard. How could these be the ones who destroyed the gang? The only way for Crann to not seem a traitor to his own cause will be to slowly introduce KoSC ideals to these new comrades.
