Muscle group training
During the summer im going to be doing some weight training I'm just looking for some suggestions on which muscle groups i should focus heavily on. Since I spear most of the time i know i need to work on my back and shoulders but i would also like to know what i would need for sword and bored

Re: Muscle group training
you're core and legs, most of the power of your shots should come from there.
This is Maeo.

Re: Muscle group training
anything that works on the twitch muscles is great, getting that time shortened from when the muscles get ready to throw the shot to the actual motion is always a help

Re: Muscle group training
I'm lazy and don't lift weights often, but when I do I try to make sure I work my triceps since I picked up a polearm.

Re: Muscle group training
you could also get some wrist weights to fight with during training then take them off for events and such
oh DBZ the one realistic thing you had...weighted training clothes FTW

Re: Muscle group training
If you're spear-guy, varying forms of push-ups is easy and fun way to get some extra brutal stank on your thrust.
... but Muhdurin is right-o... core and legs is glorious power generation-station.

Re: Muscle group training
On a related note, don't be afraid to work on some cardio while you're busy getting jacked (and tan).
Cardiovascular endurance may not allow you to throw sword shots more quickly or with additional force, but it sure comes in handy when you have to run around a bit on the battlefield. Believe me - having the stamina to jog around a bit without becoming quickly exhausted is a huge boon to one's combat effectiveness.

Re: Muscle group training
Ame is right. Being able to fight all out for extended periods of time is great. An easy way that is easy to help build this up is jogging or running to the respoint instead of walking durring practice.

What kind of exercise equipment do you have access to? What goals do you have in mind? Do you have anyone who would work out with you on a regular basis?

Re: Muscle group training
I may not be the best one to help with training or anything, but one thing my brother showed me is this;
Take a chair, place it up (back first) against a wall or any non-moving structure. Then sit at the edge of it, having your hands firmly holding each side of the seat, and your legs straight out in front of you. Then you lift up using your arms, and move your body off of the chair to the front of it, and lower yourself, then push slowly back up, and keep going, down and slowly back up.
This routine is great for working your arms and shoulders. I am used to benching anywhere between 75 (for toning) and 150+ (for muscle building), and first time I tried this it only took three reps to start making me feel it (since I am a big 292lb guy.)
Hope this helps!
