Dark Pools
I had this whole story in my head, but I tried to minimize it as much as possible.
It’s been a year since the attack of K’nar Bloodhoof. Elden Yin had been sensing residual dark energies from where the portals were. He and a student went to investigate. There were black pools of energy at these locations. During their study at one they were attacked by bandits and the student fell in, when he came out he was in a rage, he charged the bandits with no care for his life, the boy killed them but was mortally wounded. Elden Yin attempted to calm him down in his moment of death, but the boy was filled with paranoia and hate. Elden Yin took a sample to (Someone important, King, Leader of sorts, a General) and eventually some how it infects that leader and the infected leader is drawn to the pits, he infects his soldiers. This could lead to a Civil War, but caused by these Dark Pools. I was thinking game play, maybe Elden Yin has to pray at these spots and try to dry them out with the Light, meanwhile Dark Poolers are trying to defend it, Hithdor attacking.
Other Evil beings could be taking advantage of this situation.
There could be different battles to control these Pools, the good be controlling them trying to destroy them.
Evil could be trying to link them, maybe funnel them in to a main River.
Just trying to tie it in too the previous story

Re: Dark Pools
Interesting idea... in fact in The Continent, a powerful Necromancer named Lundae once stumbled upon something... called nothing more than "Black Sludge."
Black Sludge comes from the pores of a powerful Dark Energy User, and is basically Dark Energy in physical form. Anyone who lets it into their body is crazed, empowered with Dark Energy, and is more easily turned into Undead when they finally die.
Not to say that the Dark Pools are completely Black Sludge, because it took Lundae many nights just to derive a few spoonfuls of the wicked stuff.... but since its Crossroads we can easily suggest that Maegamarth or a different Dark Lord can create this stuff on a massive scale.
More importantly, I just dig the whole "infection" idea... I think it adds a lot of intensity to the plot.
