IMPORTANT! No Eryndor Community Equipment @ Ragnarok

Hi everyone, we're going to be handling Eryndor community equipment @ Ragnarok in an entirely different fashion this year. Namely, we won't have any.

Q: CAN WE GET ACCESS TO ERYNDOR COMMUNITY EQUIPMENT?
A: Yes you can. Eryndor community equipment will be brought to the pre-Ragnarök practice THIS WEEKEND (June 9) @ Munson Park. At the practice, you may SIGN OUT Eryndor community gear. All the gear you borrow will be indexed with a unique number, ascribed to YOUR name, and given to you. You will be responsible for:
   1. the safe transportation of the equipment to and from Ragnarok (find spot in YOUR vehicle)
   2. the safe storage of the equipment at Ragnarok (no 'community gear tent' is being provided)
   3. the maintenance and safekeeping of the gear at Ragnarok (don't let someone steal it/break it through misuse)
   4. In short, you are 100% personally responsible for taking care of the gear you sign out.

Q: MY FRIEND WON'T BE AT THE PRE-RAG MEETING... CAN I SIGN GEAR OUT UNDER HIS/HER NAME?
A: Nope. Sorry. You can sign out the gear yourself and take personal responsibility for it, but you CAN'T sign out the gear in someone else's name.

Q: WHEN DO I HAVE TO HAVE THE GEAR BACK? AND WHAT HAPPENS IF I BREAK IT/ IT GETS STOLEN?
A: You will be responsible for having the gear back in the hands of a responsible Envoy/High Council within 3 weeks of Ragnarok. The gear will either have to be hand-delivered at a time you both agree upon, or brought to an official practice.

Lost or broken gear is entirely YOUR responsibility to replace. That means a generic broken blue sword will have to be replaced by you (whether through payment or hand-crafting one that MEETS OR EXCEEDS the quality of the original piece of gear). No, it doesn't matter if "someone else stole it" or "my buddy is the one who broke it," simply put -- you are 100% in charge of that gear once you sign your name and until you return it safely back to Eryndor.

Q: WHY WILL THERE BE NO COMMUNITY EQUIPMENT?
A: There are about a zillion reasons why we're not just supplying oodles of generic gear this year.
  1. People DO NOT take care of/ keep track of/ respect gear that is not their explicit responsibility. Period. Many years of Ragnarok have demonstrated this as fact. We lose LOTS of gear at Rag.
  2. We don't have a giant trailer to haul all the extra weapons for you. There won't be a giant extra trailer hauling gear to Ragnarok this year, we simply don't have the space to haul stuff for you.
  3. We don't want people to rely on US (Eryndor collectively) to gear up THEM. Individual self-sufficiency is essential to the success of Eryndor and individual Dagorhir members -- this is just one more progressive step moving towards individual self-sufficiency.
  4. Managing the community gear tent was ridiculous. A handful of people suffered to keep the entire community tent organized (re: weapons not crushing and ruining other weapons), frankly that is not cool. Make space in your own tent for your own gear... or figure out among individuals a safe place to store all of your gear (like the bed of a pickup truck, or an extra small tent you bring yourself).
  5. Units already have the responsibility of gearing up their own members, so this really doesn't apply to them anyways.
  6. Community gear has always been aimed for the use by brand new members JUST beginning to experience Eryndor and Dagorhir. If you're attending Ragnarok, either you're not new OR you're new and passionate enough to have your own gear.

Q: I NEED GEAR BUT WON'T/CAN'T SIGN OUT COMMUNITY GEAR FOR USE AT RAGNAROK. WHAT CAN I DO?
A: Make it yourself. Find some veterans who will help you make it. Find some veterans who will make it for you. Buy it from some veterans. Buy it online. Have a friend loan their personal gear to you. Buy some gear AT Ragnarok from merchants. This list of other options is not exhaustive.

Any more questions or comments, post those suckers!

The best way for anyone, and everyone to mark their weapons and shields is to have the Eryndor tree on them, or if you have a short name, place it on the gear. I plan on having all of mine marked before I go to the field, so I will know how my gear looks like, and if it is taken, who has it.

Gear isn't necassarily -stolen- at Rag. ie people don't really come into your camp in the dead of night and steal your equipment. However, when people are irresponsible with their things, ie leave them at weapon check for days, leave them on the field over night, leave them in other groups' camp areas, some people will pick them up and claim them for his/herself. Is it stealing? In a way yeah it is. But often times those swords and so on will end up lying forgotten where they were dropped for days, and sometimes even until the last moment of Rag. That's not to say that -nobody- in dagorhir would purposefully steal your belongings. There surely are people that would if given the chance. But overall if you keep track of your things and aren't irresponsible, you'll be ok.

Ridiculously opportunistic moments = when your stuff will be stolen. If you make it SOOOO easy for someone to compromise their morals and nab your stuff, the odds of it happening greatly increase.

I know we all like to think that we are all inherently good (= never would steal) and bad (= will steal anytime and everytime), but the reality is that our internal 'anchoring morals' are always subject to the conditions of the surrounding environment.

For me it would be as simple as taking any equipment directly to Weapons Check or Troll.
I m marking all equipment with the stamp, name and [email protected].
Here in PR I even write on the equipment www.dagorhir.com...sort od a promo thing, but also if it gets lost or stolen, hey at least there is some small chance someone would look up about Dag!!!
